The Lions Roar
Sue Pahl, local native resident of Traverse city started copper enameling about 6 years ago. A registered geriatrics nurse for many years, she enjoyed working with her patients which led her to her to
second career as a social worker where she helped many better their lives from a local homeless shelter. She fights through the pain of arthritis and still finds it within to create her passion which is copper enameled art. Once you see her work you understand her talent. She begins the process with sheet copper, all designs are hand drawn and hand cut and everything gets hammered or shaped with a tool. The process is lengthy from start to finish and includes a lot of scrubbing the metal, annealing before it is cut, using a pickling solution to reveal the metal and coating each side with glass (transparent enamel). Once this process is finished she is ready to bead or chain.

Working currently on Wedding Jewelry for summer, meeting with the Brides to be, sketching designs and sharing what I have completed with them in mind - EXCITING!!
The Golden Clear came, and I'm back in the studio working!! Sold piece last wk that I called "fire" so making another one, never come out the same, all origional, just same process and colors.
Also, completed a 1/2 Face pin and an Owl today, have to finish the edges yet then bead "Fire" using red stick coral and place pin backs on the other 2.
Copper coming?? I'm not totally out, but......lots to accomplish today...and PLAN to attend and support your LOCAL artists at the Northern Michigan Unique Market from 10am -5pm Sat. Mar. 24 at Annz Metalz Designz (behind Silver Swan, just north of Tom's West Bay on the left side of M-22!!) The Lion's Roar will be there. ALSO, the 100th person to like the Lion's Roar FB site WINS a free pair of ear rings!!
Got busy with "Naked Copper Ear rings" yesterday, my stock was seriously down. They are made of 24 gauge copper, cut in a teardrop shape. The hole is placed and then they are hammered. Swarovski Crystals are strung on beading wire for a sparkly finish!! o
